Michelle Joy C. Magbalon, Esq.

Michelle Joy C. Magbalon, Esq. is an associate attorney at the Law Offices of Elaine Cheung. In 2003, Ms. Magbalon earned her Bachelor of Arts from Cornell University, with Distinction in All Subjects. She earned her Juris Doctor magna cum laude from Fordham University School of Law in 2009.

In the summer after her first year of law school, Ms. Magbalon interned at Asociación Grupo Ceiba in Guatemala City, Guatemala, where she worked with marginalized youth at risk for joining gangs and designed and implemented a legal assistance program to teach them their legal rights. At Fordham she was selected to be a Crowley Scholar, where she studied international human rights law and New Zealand’s domestic violence policy in-depth. Ms. Magbalon also co-founded an anti-human trafficking student group in law school and was Chair of the school’s Amnesty International chapter.

Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Magbalon practiced law in the New York office of a large, international law firm. As part of her pro bono work, she has assisted a Spanish-speaking survivor of domestic violence in obtaining her U visa and has advocated for the rights of a disabled child.

Having volunteered, lived and traveled abroad, as well as being the daughter of immigrants, Ms. Magbalon can empathize with citizens of countries from around the world and is committed to helping her clients navigate the immigration process.
